Our January of Being on "The List"

So this past month has been crazy and the details are already becoming a little fuzzy so I wanted to document what the journey has been like as we've waited for another foster kid to join our family...

January 10th

5p – Call for a 5 mo old girl.

             I called Josh to ask him what he thought and during our conversation the placement desk called back to say she was likely going to kin, they’d call us later if they ended up needing us

7:30p – Call from a Denver number, expected it to be for the baby. On-call worker asks us to take an 18 year old girl for 1-2 nights…obviously we had to say no to that one.

January 14th

9p – Call for a 4 year old girl.

Her case would be in another county that would involve kinda of long drives for visits so we told them to call us back if they couldn’t find anyone.

Called back about an hour later because they couldn’t find anyone, asked if we could meet in the middle to pick her up in an hour.

We got her bed/room ready.

They called back 45 min later to say she was going to be placed with kin instead…

January 20th

5:30p – Call for an infant boy

There were some unknowns about him that made us decide to tell them that we could take him if they couldn’t find anyone else.

They never called back, but later that night we found out he got placed with our good friends!! We've since met him and he is a doll :)

January 23rd

9:45a – Email for newborn boy.

Let them know we would take him.

We waited all day to hear if he was going to be placed with us, got an email at 3:45p that he had been placed with kin

5:45p – Call for a 4 year old girl for 1-3 days

Said we would take her

She showed up at 7:30p

10:30p – Call for a 1 & 3 year old sibling set

Said we couldn’t because we already had taken in a 4 year old

11:15p – They called back asking if we could just take the 1 year old for the night

We said sure…

January 25^th

10a – 4 year old leaves

7:30p – 1 year old leaves

January 27^th

12p – Talk to our certification worker to change what our family is open to based on the experience with the 1 and 4 year old

1p – Received two emails for two different sibling sets.

One got placed before we got back to the placement desk.

The other one was too high of needs for our current family situation.

January 28^th

1p – Email for newborn girl

            Called placement desk to tell them we would take her, they said there was another family interested, and caseworker would be in touch

2:45p – Caseworker calls

3:45p – Newborn girl arrives

Intrigued to see what February brings our way...
